Fair Use Policy
Last updated
1. About This Policy
This Fair Use Policy (FUP) is designed to protect the integrity, performance, and reliability of Managed Networks' services for all customers. We may take action if your use presents an unreasonable burden, or "unfair usage", on our network or resources.
This policy applies to services including domain hosting, web hosting, SIP trunking, dedicated servers, private/public/hybrid cloud, and related connectivity.
2. What "Fair Use" Means
Fair Use means using our services in a way that:
- Is reasonable and expected under your plan.
- Doesn’t significantly affect the performance or experience of other customers.
- Sticks within usage thresholds set per service.
- Does not breach other parts of our acceptable use or terms of service.
We aim to allow flexibility while ensuring the network remains healthy and fair for all.
3. When We May Take Action
We may apply temporary or ongoing measures if your usage:
- Exceeds defined limits (e.g. excessive bandwidth use, CPU, disk I/O)
- Causes degraded performance for others
- Poses risks to infrastructure (e.g. DDoS, malware, resource-intensive scripts)
- Misuses features (e.g. unlimited on paper, but used in a way beyond reasonable scope)
Before doing so, we'll try to contact you, explain the issue, and request remedial action.
4. Examples of Fair Use vs Overuse
| Service | Fair use | Overuse |
|---|---|---|
| Web Hosting/Shared Hosting | High traffic website within allocated resources. | Running intensive data processing or video streaming beyond server capacity. |
| SIP Trunking | Normal volume of business calls, call recordings, concurrent lines. | Massive conferencing usage, auto-dialling, call farming. |
| Dedicated Servers/Cloud | Hosting business apps, databases, APIs. | Cryptocurrency mining, file-sharing, high-load disruptive services. |
| Domain Services | Normal domain lookups, forwarding. | High-volume automated DNS queries (botnet), abuse of forwarding loops. |
5. Managed Networks Actions
If your usage is deemed excessive or unfair, we may at any time, and at our discretion:
- Issue a warning and guidance on reducing usage
- Temporarily throttle or limit your resources (bandwidth, CPU, storage)
- Suspend or disable features impacting others
- Require migration to a higher-level plan or dedicated resource
- Terminate service for repeated, egregious abuse
Any action will be proportionate, and we will seek to restore full service once the issue is resolved.
6. Your Responsibilities
As a customer, you agree to:
- Use your services reasonably and in line with your plan
- Monitor your usage (bandwidth, storage, CPU, etc.)
- Respond to any notifications or recommendations from Managed Network
- Refrain from using services for unlawful or malicious purposes
7. No Refunds for Misuse
We will not issue refunds or credits if we apply fair use measures due to excessive use.
These are preventive steps to protect the wider network and service quality.
8. Policy Review and Changes
We may revise this policy from time to time.
Significant changes will be communicated in writing or via notice on our website.
The current version will always be available to all customers.
